Skill Building is Live!


Major Feature Out Now!

This update is all about fixes and gameplay features! 
To save you some time, we haven't changed anything in the narrative for this build, but there's plenty of story in the works for the full game!

Skill Forge

We’ve shown little screenshots of it in our Discord, but now it’s your chance to try it out!

How it works

  • As you hang out with friends and family, you may get little toy bricks. These bricks can be stacked on top of each other, in the skill creator.













  • Bricks can have different effects on your skill in combat. Such as: more damage, more targets, less SP cost.

  • The position of each brick matters!













  • Bricks on the left side will affect your party, while bricks on the right affect the enemy. There may be some fun implications there, but I’ll let you check it out for yourself.

  • The skill is calculated from the bottom up, so a brick that multiplies a property will only multiply the value bricks below it.



I may have made it sound more complex than it needs to be. Just think of it as playing with your: 

prized collection of generic plastic bricks that are able easily be connected and disconnected from one another 

that you had as a kid.

Go to the Pause Menu -> Skill Forge and get stacking!











Mouse Controls

It was asked for, and it’s been given! You can now use the mouse in dialog, menus, and battle! It started with getting the right feel for Skill Creation and spiraled after that. I can’t think of many RPG games that allow mouse+keyboard controls. Anyone have recommendations I can research?

I originally wanted to design Racecar Bed from the ground up with controller/keyboard in mind (and still do because of its coziness) however from some feedback and the Skill Creation UI have made me consider otherwise





Balancing and Tweaks

  • Some damage, health, and SP numbers have been updated. Since the chapter in our Proof of Concept is so condensed, I bumped down the difficulty to allow for a variety of decision making, rather than only 1-2 winnable routes

  • Now that Skill Creation is in, there’s a lot more power in your hands.

  • New dialog box!



Bug Fixes

  • Lots of UI bugs squashed

  • Typo fixes

  • Character portrait fixes

  • The Run combat option actually works now



More Coming Soon

Uhhh, so I was expecting to update this more frequently (*Looks at last build date* O_O) , but it turns out there was a lot of upfront work to be done for Skill Creation. In order to iterate more frequently, I’ll be hiding completely broken/unfinished features while still working on the build. That way I can crank out bug fixes as they come in!


As for the WIP stuff not in the current build, there’s:

  • lot’s of story and characters being worked on

  • gameplay design

  • and a major combat update coming down the pipeline! A hint of it is actually hidden in the current build (I doubt I would find it without knowing about it).
